Get help for someone who may have depression.

If you know someone who seems depressed and may need help, here are some things you can do:

  1. Tell the person that you are concerned about him or her.

  2. Share the information from this website with the person.

  3. Talk to the person about seeing a doctor.

  4. Take the person to see his or her doctor, or arrange for the doctor to make a house call.

  5. If the doctor offers a name and phone number of a psychiatrist or another specialist, call the number, and help the person make an appointment.

  6. Take the person to the appointment.

  7. “Be there” for the person after he or she starts treatment.

  8. Contact any of the places listed under the "Resources" section on this website.
